Analysis of Home Burial by Robert Frost Essay -- Robert Frost Home Bur

Analysis of Home Burial by Robert Frost Robert Frost wrote the poem Home Burial after he and his wife suffered the tragic loss of their 4-year-old son. Home Burial shows the emotions people feel after such a loss, and how they face those emotions. Through Frost's experience he shows that men and women grieve in different ways. In Home Burial Frost demonstrates, through the husband, that in the grieving process men tend to show strength. Throughout the poem you see the husband proceed to do his everyday tasks. The husband states, 'Three foggy mornings and one rainy day are enough to rot the best birch fence a man could build.'(Robert Frost). Here is just one example of how the husband is trying to move forward through work. Another example of how the husband tries to continue with life is seen in this statement he makes, 'Can't a man speak of his own child he's lost?'(Frost). In addition to work, the husband tries to get past their loss by speaking of his child. He does not want to forget about his child. Through the use of words, the husband can keep the memory of that child alive; while at the same time get adjusted to the fact that his child is dead. We see through the eyes of Frost, that as the strength and breadwinner of the family, the husband tries to heal his wife Amy?s grief, fix her. Speaking to Amy he says, ?There you have said it all and you feel better.?(Frost). Robert Gale, a critic of the poem says, ?He puts too much faith in words.?(Robert Gale). The husband, in trying to fix Amy?s grief, wants her to believe that since she has verbally stated how she feels, she can now move on. He fails to realize that the pain Amy feels runs deeper than just words, or doesn?t want to believe that his pain o... ...e associated this with the rotting corpse of their child. She sees her husband as unfeeling and unemotional about their child. Since she will not communicate with him, she cannot understand how he could just bury their child and not give it a second thought. Home Burial opens the eyes of the reader. It allows one to see the different ways people grieve. It shows that there is no right or wrong way to grieve, and that just because two people don?t show their grief in the same manner it does not mean that one person is in more pain than the other. Defining Human Resource Management: Function and Roles Essay

Human resource management conducts several operations, and plays a vital role in organizations. Many employees look to human resource management for assistance and representation. A company’s ability to manage people effectively can build a more successful organization, and also helps maintain a more vibrant workforce, which in turn aids companies in keeping a competitive edge in many of today’s industries. The following information defines human resource management, touches on personal experience, and examines the functions and roles human resource management plays in an organization. Human Resource Management Human resource management helps organizations to obtain and develop employees. People comprise any organizations most valuable asset, and sufficiently motivating and maintaining a well-trained workforce allows organizations to perform at optimal levels. Human resource management acts a subset of management, and coincides with the planning, organizing, leading, and controlling functions thereof (DeCenzo & Robbins, 2007). From a personal viewpoint, human resource management involves several activities. At previous larger employers, hiring, training, payroll, and conflict resolution were some of these duties, while others included company party planning, employee benefit disbursement, and annual progress reports. Today, human resource management at a current employer has significantly less duties, as the small property maintenance company employs a much smaller workforce of fewer than 15 employees. However, at all places of personal employment the human resource departments had multiple responsibilities related with not only managing people, but also providing various support functions to the organization. Primary Functions of Human Resource Management According to DeCenzo and Robbins (2007), two primary responsibilities include, â€Å"assisting the organization in it strategic direction and representing and advocating for the organization’s employees (DeCenzo & Robbins, 2007, p. 34). As previously discussed, human resource management can involve several organizational activities, but the main focus constitutes supporting both the company and company associates. The four primary human resource management activities that provide organizational support include staffing, employee development, motivation, and maintenance (DeCenzo & Robbins, 2007). Staffing an organization often requires screening several candidates to seek out the best fit for a particular position. Once hired, human resource departments must provide adequate training and orientation to help not only new employees, but also further develop and enhance existing company staff. Building a quality workforce for an organization takes time and effort from human resource management teams, largely because as stated by DeCenzo and Robbins (2007), â€Å"People, not buildings, make a company successful,† (DeCenzo & Robbins, 2007, p. 32). Additionally, the human resource department finds efficient ways to motivate workers such as benefit packages, performance bonuses, and other influential compensation. This function is highly important, as it helps build and maintain morale. Motivating people can prove to be a difficult task, and as explained by DeCenzo and Robbins (2007), â€Å"Human behavior is complex, and trying to figure out what motivates various employees has long been a concern of behavioral scientists† (DeCenzo & Robbins, 2007, p. 40). Finally, the human resource team must maintain effective communications, employee loyalty, and assist in providing a continuously safe and healthy work environment (DeCenzo & Robbins, 2007). The Strategic Planning Role of Human Resource Management Strategic planning for organizations begins with setting achievable objectives, and the role of human resource management requires finding economically feasible strategies to meet preset organizational goals. According to DeCenzo and Robbins (2007), â€Å"This means working with line management in analyzing organizational designs, the culture, and performance systems, and recommending and implementing changes where necessary† (DeCenzo & Robbins, 2007, p. 34). Additionally, this often involves figuring out ways to reduce costs in personnel, while finding more affordable ways to offer motivational benefits to employees. Human resource management displays added value to an organization by effectively validating the company’s human resource management investments (DeCenzo & Robbins, 2007). Despite the size of an organization, a quality emphasis on human resource management builds potential for successful production efforts. Organizations cannot function without people, and the proper selection and development of employees often benefits from a quality human resource management team. DeCenzo and Robbins (2007) stated, â€Å"Human resource management is a function of every manager’s job, not just those who work in human resources† (DeCenzo & Robbins, 2007, p. 34). Many people tend to think of hiring or payroll when the term â€Å"HR† comes up, when in fact, several important organizational duties and responsibilities come with these positions. List of 130 Mass Nouns (Or Noncount Nouns) in English

Have you ever wondered why you can have two plates of spaghetti but not  two spaghettis? Or two bags of rice  but not two rices? Most nouns In English grammar are like the words plate and bag: they can be counted. Count nouns, as theyre called,  have both  singular  and  plural  forms, such as one  diamond and four  diamonds. But theres also a group of nouns  that cant be counted. These mass nouns  (which are sometimes called  noncount nouns)  usually have only singular forms—spaghetti, rice, and gold, for example. Count nouns in the singular can follow an indefinite article (or another determiner): a plate, a bag, one  diamond. Mass nouns, on the other hand, usually dont follow an indefinite article, though they can follow certain determiners (such as much or less). At times the distinction between count nouns and mass nouns gets a little fuzzy. For example, the word water is usually treated as a mass noun, but in some contexts water can take the -s ending: Hammerhead sharks are found worldwide in  warmer waters  along coastlines and continental shelves. The word chicken is another fuzzy example. When were talking about the meat (We had chicken again for dinner), chicken is a mass noun. But when were referring to the animal (The cat chased the chickens out of the garden), chicken is a count noun. Keep this fuzziness in mind as you review the following list of 130 mass nouns in English. In certain contexts, some of these nouns can take an -s ending. Also, note that a number of these words can be used as more than one part of speech. The Differences Of Thomas Jefferson And Alexander Hamilton

The ratification of the Constitution introduced an era marked by individualism, political discourse, and the inevitable rise of the political party system. During the 1790s, rising tensions among members of George Washington’s cabinet fueled the development of two political parties, the Democratic Republicans and Republicans. At the forefront were Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton, respectively. Their divergent temperaments, views on government, and perception of each other in their individual letters to George Washington on â€Å"9 September 1792† reveal the early roots of the party system, and to an extent, political polarization. They were at odds on how to interpret the Constitution, with Hamilton favoring a â€Å"loose† or open-to-interpretation approach to the government, - granting it implied or suggested powers - and Jefferson preferring a â€Å"strict† interpretation: the government’s abilities are explicitly stated within the Constitution, with no room for interpretation (Kevin Mack, â€Å"Jefferson’s Republicanism†). Jefferson opposed Hamilton’s plans to establish a national bank and have the federal government carry the states’ debts, as it was not in line with his strict view of the Constitution, and heavily strengthened the national government as opposed to the states (Mack, â€Å"Jefferson’s Republicanism†). Now that the facilities are having problem in switching system, they still refuse to trust each other’s system, they are even unwilling to communicate with each other about the system. This lack of trust and communication has worsened Flextronics’s situation. 2. Criteria in Decision Evaluation The most prior criterion in decision evaluation is whether the ultimate decision enables Flextronics to make profits in the long run. Since profit enables enterprises to survive and developlast. Profit is also the reason for the establish profit oriented enterprises. However, in individual tasks such as Xbox project, the priority may be developing cutting edge and enhance reputation rather than financial gain, but this project would be valueless if it cannot bring about financial benefit in the long run. The second most important criterion is customer satisfaction. In this case, customer satisfaction means whether Flextronics produces Xbox in good quality, right quantity, with reasonable price, and in timely manner. Flextronics also needs to meet Microsoft’s requirement in system adoption and production control. As Microsoft is an important customer and the project’s success could bring about substantial benefit for Flextronics, it is important to stick to the contract with Microsoft. Another important criterion would be whether the ultimate decision leads to good team work. Now that the Hungary facility and Mexico facility have inconsistency in production and refuse to compromise, decision makers need to come up with a solution to involve the two facilities in close cooperation, which is the key to success in launching Xbox in two markets at the same time. As good teamwork in Xbox would lead to enhanced work efficiency and good example for future projects, it is important for decision makers to let the two facilities willingly reach an agreement. 3. Actions to Take In order to satisfy the criteria mentioned above, Mr. McCusker should take the following actions before he reaches a decision. First of all, in order to make sure the company can benefit from this project, he need make comprehensive analysis on every aspect including costs, potential profit, customer satisfaction and future influences on market share of all those three possible scenarios. The first decision alternative is putting Datasweep in both Mexico and Hungary. This fits to both the philosophy of Mark, the CEO of Flextronics and the requirement of Microsoft. Moreover, Datasweep is a scalable solution over Visual Factory, thus facilitating future projects on a global view. On the other hand, the cost is a big issue. Besides, the uncertainty to operate the new system may disorder the normal operation for Hungarian for a period of time. Well, decision-makers should consider more than financial benefit1. As this is a global project, McCusker should view it as a whole. If this solution does meet the criteria of the company, those two branches should share the total cost and profit. Furthermore, the Mexico factory should send some engineers who are familiar with Datasweep to Hungarian to make it operate well as soon as possible. Because the Xbox will be built first in Mexico, there is still some time for Hungary to adopt the new system. In this case, Flextronics will become more and more global-orientated and get ready for tremendous future projects. However, there is still some uncertainty exists, because the management team in Hungary is self-important. They are quite unwilling to switch and would only do so if the CEO commanded. They may have some psychological issues which will have bad effects on carrying on the project. The second one is to set up Visual Factory in Mexico. It will save a lot of money, which is a big issue in this industry. This system has been well self-customized by the Hungarian team and they believe that they have already discovered and fixed most of the bugs. But the fatal defect is that Visual Factory has no credibility outside of Hungary. It is extremely hard to convince Microsoft and the executives and IT team of Flextronics to trust this new system. Moreover, because of the build of Xbox starting from Mexico, time is another critical issue. The third option is allowing each branch uses their own software system. This will benefit both plants without any risk. Nevertheless, there is also a fatal drawback of this option that is it can hardly meet the basic requirement of Microsoft for a single software platform. What’s more, it lacks global synergies which will be a barrier for Flextronics to develop in the long run. The second action McCusker should take is talking to Michael Marks, the CEO of Flextronics, putting all three options and all the pros and cons of them according to the comprehensive analysis and asking for his advice and even help. In this case, this is indeed needed, though it is not recommended to refer to boss for help. Because this is a global project which need close cooperation of the big two branches, it’s hard for McCusker, the project manager, to deal with those senior executives. Furthermore, Humphrey Porter, president of Central Europe, and his team even claimed that they would switch to Datasweep only if Michael Marks ask to do so as an order. In this case, without the approval of Michael Marks, it’s useless for McCusker to reach any decision.
